Rotary Club of Flat Rock

Rotary in Southern Henderson County, North Carolina

About Us

The Rotary Club of Flat Rock is a newly forming, provisional Rotary club. We are working hard to become a full-fledged and chartered club. To do that, we need more than 20 members. See why below

What drives us?

The "WHY" of Rotary covers a lot of ground, but the common thread is in our motto, "Service Above Self."

Membership in a Rotary club brings with it many opportunities, such as:

  • Becoming connected to your community
  • Working with other like minded business leaders and professionals to address community needs
  • Participating in Rotary's international humanitarian service efforts
  • Establishing contact with an international network of professionals
  • Developing leadership skills and assuming leadership positions

The Five Avenues of Service in Rotary are:

  • Club Service which focuses on building our own club,
  • Vocational Service in which we serve others through our professions by sharing our skills and expertise and aspiring to high ethical standards
  • Community Service to implement club projects and activities that will improve life in the local community
  • International Service includes expanding Rotary's humanitarian reach throughout the world and promoting world understanding and peace.
  • New Generations recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults involved in leadership development activities, community and international service projects, and exchange programs that enrich and foster world peace and cultural understanding.

The Club

There are other Rotary Clubs in Henderson County, NC. It's our view is that there is room for more.
We believe so strongly in what we are doing, that we want to make the opportunity to become a Rotarian available to as many people as possible. The Rotary Club of Flat Rock is available for those who find that their working schedule doesn't permit them to attend a meeting earlier in the day, or who might find a meeting at the end of the working day a good way to "shift gears." We are not a so-called "dinner club" in that we don't regularly serve meals at our club meetings, preferring instead to focus our club time on the business of Rotary.

What about the formation of a new club?

According to the ABC's of Rotary:

Extending Rotary

Every 14 hours of every day a new Rotary club is chartered in one of the more than 150 countries in which Rotary exists. This steady growth in new clubs is extremely important in extending the worldwide programs and influence of Rotary International. New Rotary clubs may be established anywhere in the world where the fundamental principles of Rotary may be freely observed and wherever it can reasonably be expected that a successful club can be maintained.

A club must be organized to serve a specific "locality" or clearly identified territory in which there are enough business or professional persons of good character engaged in proprietary or management positions. A minimum of 40 potential classifications is necessary for a proposed new club, and from that list a permanent membership of at least 20 members must be enrolled. Occasionally an existing club will cede a portion of its territory or will share the same territory with a new club.

In the process of organizing a new club, the first step is to conduct a survey of the locality to determine the potential for new club extension. The district governor's special representative guides the organization of the new club. Among the requirements for a new club is the adoption of the Standard Rotary Club Constitution, a minimum of 20 charter members with clearly established classifications, payment of a charter fee, weekly meetings of the provisional club and the adoption of a club name that will distinctly identify it with its locality A provisional club becomes a Rotary club when its charter is approved by the board of Rotary International.

It is a great opportunity and special duty of all Rotarians to assist and cooperate in organizing new clubs. Knowing that two new Rotary clubs will be chartered someplace in the world today, tomorrow and every day provides a strong endorsement of the vitality and extension of Rotary service throughout the world.
